Ideas for Inspirational Videos...

On this page you will find a collection of links, videos, stories and images which I think would be useful for discussion starters or for assemblies.

The audience suitability ranges from EYFS to (possibly) KS4.

They are articles and stories which I have found interesting and useful.

I will add notes to each, as appropriate, with any suggestions for use but as with all resources like these there is a massive potential for different interpretation.

Everything on this page is from the source I found it, so please be aware you WILL need to watch and check before using with children!

If you have a resource that you think would fit, please send me a message and I will have a look - you will be credited as a contributor.

Never, Ever, Give Up - Ever.

Arthur's Story

Arthur's Story (Extended)

I can't remember how or when I first came across Arthur's story.
It might have been as simple as searching for Wrestlers from days gone by - such as Diamond Dallas Page (DDP).
I was moved by it and impressed by Arthur's commitment.
It now often is used as Assembly ONE in a school year - never quit, believe in yourself, and remember that someone somewhere believes in you.

I shall always remember looking around a school hall seeing teachers with tears running down their faces.
It had an impact on them and on the children, who will on occasion relate their efforts to Arthur.

Barcelona '92 - Derek Redmond

Recommended by @gazneedle

Barcelona Olympics 1992
UK 400m athlete Derek Redmond was favoured to win a medal after brilliant performances in earlier rounds.... this is the Semi Final.

Consider the determination it took for him to complete the race (albeit not 'legally').
Discuss the emotions of Derek and his father... what it meant to each other.

A triumph of the human spirit.

When you don't give up..You cannot fail!!

Jason McElwain - Defying the odds

Jason has Autism.
He was 'Team Manager', Water Boy, Towel Carrier, Assistant, Part of the team, but not completely....

Until in the final game of his final year... the Coach made him suit up with the team and sit on the bench to make him feel what is was like.

He didn't expect to play, neither did the crowd, the Coach had a different idea...

What happened next?
Defied the odds - never let anyone tell you that you can't.

Jason could and Jason did!

60 Seconds to Change how you think....

Disclaimer:
The YouTuber behind this video is Sam Pepper.

He has produced many videos, some of which are seen by other YouTubers and viewers as controversial, inappropriate behaviour and in the eyes of some, criminal.

I hold no opinion. I neither support nor revile him.

I do however like the 'message in this short clip.

Hence I have shared it here.

Sportmanship & Respect

A great moment from the Stuttgart fans after their side’s 3-2 loss to Borussia Dortmund.

The disappointed players - particularly 18-year-old Timo Baumgartl, whose mistake led to BVB’s third goal - received some brilliant encouragement from their supporters.

Bravo, VfB fans!

Fair Play & Respect

FAIR PLAY!

Al Wehdat player Mahmoud Za'tara refuses to score because of an injured opposition player.

You don't see that kind of sportsmanship often anymore.

Do you think it would happen in the English Premier League?
Why?
Why Not?

Should he have scored?

Caine's Arcade

If you haven't seen this already...why not!?

By Nirvan Mullick:
I met this 9 year old when I went to buy a doorhandle for my car.

He had built an elaborate cardboard arcade in his dad's auto parts store.

He hadn't had any customers so we invited the world to play Caine's Arcade.

Magnificent.
